MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Grand Strand’s PGA Tour stop is staying on the 2027 calendar after the tour dropped private-jet broker ONEflight International as a partner. Organizers are restoring the Myrtle Beach Classic branding for a fourth edition at the oceanfront Dunes Club layout.
Play is penciled for mid-May. Visit Myrtle Beach, which has backed the event since year one, is again the lone title brand on a purse near $4 million after ONEflight’s two-year co-title run ended.
SportFive named Steve Mays tournament director, succeeding Darren Nelson. Mays spent close to three decades in Strand golf and led Founders Group International for nine years, overseeing more than 20 area courses before starting the Classic job last week.
He said prize money and the on-course fan setup will hold steady. Golf Tourism Solutions, the local golf-course owners group and South Carolina parks officials remain among the core partners.
ONEflight paused flights in mid-September while reviewing its business and has not announced a restart. Tour officials said they pressed the company for weeks about whether it could still deliver before cutting the deal. Chamber leaders are shopping for a possible new co-title backer and talking with the tour about extending the event beyond the contract that ends after next year.
