NOVI, Mich. — The swimming beach at Lakeshore Park closed after Labor Day, but Novi’s biggest park still has plenty going on for the neighborhoods around Walled Lake this fall.

Lakeshore is the largest park in the city’s system. Its beach sits on Walled Lake, the largest lake inside Novi’s borders, and the grounds include two playgrounds and three picnic shelters that groups can use. The beach season runs only from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The main draw once the weather cools is the mountain bike trail, which loops for roughly 10 miles of singletrack. Riders will find rock gardens, log piles, narrow skinnies and a pump track. A web of broader paths serves walkers and families on bikes, and in winter those same routes work for cross-country skiing.

Trail users start at the kiosk on the park’s south end, 601 South Lake Drive. The Motor City Mountain Biking Association helps the city maintain the trail, and its volunteers built a single-track course for kids as young as 2 next to the main entrance in 2015.

A few rules to know: No motorized vehicles are allowed anywhere in the park, and there is no boat launch. Dogs can visit everywhere except the beach if they stay on a leash 6 feet long or shorter. Seasonal restrooms close Nov. 1. Pavilion Shore Park, about 0.2 miles from the entrance, adds lakefront seating and a place to fish.
