Package Thief Disguises as FedEx Employee in Troy, Leads to Arrest with Stolen Goods

Troy, Mich. – Unexpected Encounter with a Package Thief

Residents of Troy recently encountered a rather bizarre situation right in their neighborhood, as local authorities reported the arrest of a man who allegedly impersonated a FedEx employee to pull off a package theft. Talk about taking “delivery” to a whole new level!

The story begins on October 24, when police received reports of suspicious activity outside a home in Troy. Enter 34-year-old Jose Junior Rosario, who decided to don a FedEx jacket and cap, dramatically transforming himself into what he thought was the perfect disguise. Turns out, he didn’t quite fit the bill, as his antics landed him in hot water.

After hanging around the area for several hours, it was only a matter of time before the FedEx package arrived. However, fate didn’t play out in Rosario’s favor—by the time he strolled up to the porch, the homeowner had already snagged the iPhone package and headed inside. But wait! The homeowner had left a Mac Pro laptop on the porch for return. Seizing the opportunity, Rosario made his move, swiping the laptop before making a hasty retreat.

Encounters with Law Enforcement

Little did he know that law enforcement was already on his tail. Officers had been keeping an eye on him and soon caught up to him, pulling him over for questioning. To the surprise of the officers, Rosario’s trunk revealed a treasure trove of stolen goods: 16 brand new iPhones and an iPad, all still boxed up as if they had just rolled off the assembly line. Talk about an unexpected garage sale!

Rosario found himself facing quite the legal predicament. He was arraigned in the 52-4 District Court on charges including five counts of Larceny from Mail and Driving While License Suspended. With a bond set at a hefty $150,000, it’s safe to say that this package thief has some serious explaining to do.

A Rising Trend

This incident hasn’t come as a surprise to local law enforcement. They noted a troubling trend: package thefts have been on the rise across Metro Detroit. Just days before Rosario’s antics, a man had already been arrested for posing as an Amazon delivery worker in a similar iPhone heist. Local police are alert and vigilant, committing resources to address this ongoing issue.

On October 21, another suspect was tracked down after stealing iPhone packages from various cities including Utica, Southfield, and Sterling Heights. Thanks to their keen surveillance, officers caught the suspect in the act, leading to a swift arrest. The very next day, a vehicle linked to multiple thefts was spotted in West Bloomfield. This time, four suspects were apprehended, with five stolen iPhones recovered from the car.

What This Means for the Community

For Troy residents, this wave of package thefts serves as a reminder to be vigilant and proactive about securing packages and home deliveries. With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s crucial to stay alert as scammers and thieves tend to become more active.

In the end, it seems that Jose Junior Rosario is just one chapter in a bigger story of package thefts plaguing the area. As police continue to monitor the situation, we can only hope that residents stay cautious and that they won’t find themselves involved in such odd encounters. Let’s keep our eyes peeled and our packages safe!
