The tradition began in the mid-1980s, when following a wave of Halloween-related fires, community members decided to take matters into their own hands. “We just thought that if we changed the frequency, the energy around that night, we could make some positive improvements,” George explained, shedding light on the motivation behind this inspiring initiative.

This year marks the grand opening of the city’s very first Art Alley, a vibrant space designed to showcase local artwork and creativity. Katrina Storm, an Art Alley Fellow for Blight Busters, shares her enthusiasm: “The Artists Village and Blight Busters have been amazing in being very inclusive about all art, all people.”
The Old Redford Art Alley is one of nine designated across the city, filled with colorful murals created by talented local artists. Supporters believe that this artistic haven will not only beautify the area but will also become a destination where community members can connect with various art forms. “You get introduced to possible art forms and artists that you had no clue even existed,” Storm adds with a sparkle in her eye, clearly excited about the potential these spaces hold.
