Wayne County’s Unusual Robbery Spree
Wayne County, Mich. – An unusual robbery case has unfolded in our community, leaving many residents shocked. A man was arrested after donning a skeleton mask and a clown mask while robbing three different businesses in a single day. Sounds like a Halloween horror story, but unfortunately, this is all too real!
Robberies Unfolding in Westland
On the night of October 27, just before 1 a.m., the first business targeted was Intimate Ideas in Westland. According to an affidavit submitted by the FBI, the robber, armed with a gun, approached the clerk and demanded money from the register. After putting the gun back into his waistband, he couldn’t wait and decided to open the cash register himself. He walked away with around $422 before disappearing into the night.
Fast forward to just before 6:30 a.m. on the same day, when this same person, now in a clown mask and a green jacket, entered a local McDonald’s. He was armed and once again demanded cash. Unfortunately for him, the register was closed, and when attempts to open it failed, he left without a single penny!
The Gas Station Hold-Up
Not to be discouraged, our masked culprit then struck a Shell gas station in Garden City later that morning. He pointed his gun at the clerk and ominously claimed, “You got 30 seconds before I start shooting.” That’s a chilling statement, and it undoubtedly put the clerk in a tough spot. Fortunately, the clerk complied and handed over about $1,070. And, as if that’s a polite way to conclude a robbery, the robber actually said, “Thank you,” before making his getaway!
Police and Quick Arrest
Things quickly took a turn for the robber. Garden City police were on patrol in the area when they spotted someone fitting the description of the thief. A man named Brendan Bonner was found sitting in his car in front of an apartment complex close to the gas station, and he wasn’t wearing a mask but was indeed dressed in a matching green jacket. After getting him out of the vehicle, officers proceeded with his arrest, and the plot thickened from there.
Upon searching Bonner’s car, officers uncovered some incriminating items and even found money wrapped in a rubber band in his pocket! But the real kicker came when authorities searched his apartment. They found a partial skeleton mask, clothing resembling what was seen during the robbery at Intimate Ideas, and, you guessed it, more cash!
Confessions and Consequences
During their investigation, police learned interesting details from a person living with Bonner. This individual shared that Bonner had made a skeleton mask and a gun from parts ordered online, and had even mentioned going out to commit a robbery! After coming back from his spree, he confessed to robbing Intimate Ideas and reportedly spent hours cleaning the money to erase any fingerprints.
It’s shocking to think that someone would go to such lengths for quick cash! Bonner eventually admitted to robbing all three businesses, and his clever disguises did little to help him escape justice in the end.
A Community on Alert
This bizarre series of events has left the Wayne County community in disbelief. It serves as a reminder that crime can take many forms, and it can happen right in your neighborhood. Thankfully, law enforcement acted quickly to apprehend the suspect and ensure that he won’t be a danger to the community anymore.
As we reflect on this strange occurrence, let’s hope our local businesses can get back to routine without fear, and that the affected employees find peace and safety going forward!
