Freeland, Michigan – Tristan Comer, a talented offensive lineman from Freeland High School, has officially committed to play football for Michigan State University (MSU). The announcement was made during an interview, where Comer expressed his excitement about joining the Spartans’ football program as he prepares to enter his senior year this fall.

Comer decided to choose MSU due to their impressive coaching staff, the caliber of players, and the superb facilities focused on player development, which he found appealing compared to other offers. His recruitment journey garnered attention, particularly after he received an official offer from MSU, which followed an official visit to their East Lansing campus.

Over the last season, Comer demonstrated exceptional skills on the field while contributing significantly to Freeland’s offensive performance. In his junior year, he played a pivotal role in helping the team generate over 4,000 total yards of offense, with more than 3,000 yards coming from rushing plays. His versatility is noteworthy, transitioning from a sophomore tight end, where he earned First Team All-Tri-Valley Conference Red and all-region honors, to playing as a tackle during his junior season.

Coaches have recognized Comer’s dedication throughout the recruitment process. Freeland Falcons’ coach praised him for his hard work and patience, which ultimately paid off with his commitment to MSU. Comer is a three-star prospect, holding a rating of 86 and ranking as the No. 105 offensive tackle in the nation. Furthermore, in Michigan, he stands out as the No. 21 senior-to-be.

His athletic prowess isn’t limited to football; Comer is also an active basketball player, showcasing his agility and coordination. In addition to his role on the offensive line, he made solid contributions on defense, playing at the left tackle and defensive end positions. Last season, he recorded 79 tackles, with 11 tackles for loss, and tallied eight sacks along with three forced fumbles, leading him to earn First Team All-State honors for his defensive performance.

Standing tall at 6’6″ and weighing 270 pounds, Comer’s impressive physical attributes have made him a sought-after recruit. Prior to committing to MSU, he had also received scholarship offers from Army, Miami (Ohio), and Western Michigan. He previously visited other schools, including Oregon State, West Virginia, and Northwestern, but canceled a scheduled visit to Cincinnati before making his decision.

Comer’s commitment adds significant strength to Michigan State’s 2026 recruiting class. He is now the 17th overall recruit and the fourth offensive lineman in that class. Notable fellow recruits include East Kentwood quarterback Kayd Coffman and offensive lineman Eli Bickel, among others, highlighting the depth and talent being attracted to the Spartans.

Comer expressed his enthusiasm about playing in-state, valuing the opportunity to develop his skills both on the field and academically as part of the Spartan community. His commitment reflects both personal aspirations and the broader vision of Michigan State to enhance their football program through dedicated and skilled athletes.
