Young Girl Injured After Finding Shards in Smoothie
In Southfield, a shocking incident unfolded when an 11-year-old girl found what appeared to be either pieces of broken glass or a hard plastic material in her smoothie. The young girl, Cutora Bright, didn’t realize what she had encountered until she noticed the hardness in her mouth.
When asked what her reaction was upon discovering the foreign objects, Cutoro explained, “I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never seen anything like this before from this place. It was a total surprise.”
Cutora and her grandmother had bought smoothies from the popular Tropical Smoothie Café situated on Southfield Road. Upon taking a sip, Cutora notified her grandmother, Barbara Mosley, about the unusual hardness in her drink, which she showed to her.
However, the situation took a grim turn when they got home. “I opened my mouth and before I could even put the toothbrush in, my tongue started bleeding,” said Cutora. Seeing the bleeding, her grandmother immediately rushed her to an urgent care facility where she underwent an examination and an X-ray.
The doctor attending to Cutora affirmed that, while there weren’t any grave injuries, it was indeed a scare for the family. He added, “had she just swallowed out of the cup, it’d be a whole different situation altogether.”
This isn’t the first such incident reported in the same Tropical Smoothie Café. Earlier in May, another woman claimed her 3-year-old grandson found either glass shards or a hard plastic in his smoothie. The minor was rushed to a local hospital, but the extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.
A statement from Tropical Smoothie Café expressed their bafflement by these accusations, stating the independent franchise location under question doesn’t use any form of glass in its café. Post these accusations, an internal probe was conducted, which included studying footage of smoothie preparation. This, according to them, showed nothing untoward or unusual.
The incidents have prompted serious concerns about the safety standards at Tropical Smoothie Café and left the families involved with a bitter aftertaste.
