Oakland County, Michigan – A local teacher here aged 61, named Timothy Allen Daugherty, is facing serious charges after being accused of an unpleasant act involving students. Parents are now prepping for a court fight over the alleged misdeeds by the adult instructor.
Dougherty, who currently resides in White Lake, is up against six charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was presented before a local court just this past Wednesday. The allegations against him sprung from a series of supposed incidents that took place at a school in Highland Township.
The school administration and the law enforcement authorities were informed about these allegations back in April 2024, immediately leading to Daugherty’s suspension. The complaint against the teacher is about unfortunate sexual contact with students, none older than 11.
One parent, Amanda Moore, speculated that her child may have been a victim of the same man. “It does bring some kind of relief knowing my child won’t run into him randomly at some store,” Moore said.
Moore is teaming up with attorney Ven Johnson for a civil lawsuit. Johnson believes that this isn’t the first time Daugherty was purportedly involved in such an incident.
Parents have repeatedly expressed their concerns about Daugherty’s behavior, but it appears as if their voices have not been heard or taken seriously. “We spoke up at public meetings, but at every turn, they dismissed us,” said Tori Spano, another concerned parent.
At present, at least a dozen parents are planning this upcoming civil lawsuit, and Moore’s lawyer Johnson suspects there might be other victims yet to come forward.
Upon learning about the allegations against the teacher, the school district acted promptly. “We immediately removed the individual from the district. We take all allegations of misconduct seriously and are fully cooperating with law enforcement,” claims the district statement.
Daugherty is currently on bond, subject to constant monitoring via a GPS tether, and is due back in court on Sept. 18.
Parties with relevant information or other potential victims are urged to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Highland Township Substation.
