Clarkston Community Comes Together for a Good Cause

On a sunny August 26th, the picturesque Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Club in Clarkston became the backdrop for a heartwarming event that brought together friends, families, and generous supporters for a wonderful cause. The 32nd annual Corporate Golf Challenge organized by the Judson Center was an overwhelming success, raising more than $190,000 for their crucial programs aimed at helping children, adults, and families in need.

Supporting Vital Services

The Judson Center, a non-profit human services agency headquartered in Farmington Hills, provides essential services including foster care, adoption, mentoring, and support for behavioral and physical health, autism, and disabilities. With such a broad reach, every dollar raised at the Golf Challenge means a lot. “This fundraiser enables us to reach even more children, families, and adults who need our services,” said Judson Center President and CEO, Lenora Hardy-Foster. Her words echoed the sentiments of everyone present, as they all knew the impact their participation was making.

Golfing and More

The event saw the participation of over 200 golfers and spectators, all enjoying the thrill of 18 holes of golf while contributing to a noble cause. The day was packed with a delightful strolling lunch, an engaging program, and a fun raffle, adding to the excitement. Gathering together for a cause this significant is always a great way to foster community spirit.

Generosity in Action

As with any successful event, the Corporate Golf Challenge had its share of sponsors. The co-presenting sponsors, Barton Malow and Ruby + Associates, Inc., played a huge role in ensuring everything ran smoothly with their generous contributions. Moreover, several other sponsors lent their support, including Kaiser Enterprise, AISIN Group, and many local companies like Bank of Ann Arbor-Birmingham and Mike Savoie Chevrolet. Their willingness to give back to the community truly exemplifies what teamwork and collaboration can achieve.

Chick-fil-A’s Commitment to Community Nourishment

30 million meals to various nonprofits across the U.S. and Canada. Through their Shared Table Food Donation Program, local Chick-fil-A restaurants donate surplus food to community partners, which has been vital for many battling food insecurity.

In the Detroit area alone, ten Chick-fil-A locations have contributed to the creation of 77,000 meals for local nonprofits including Hospitality House and Hope Network since 2012. It’s heartwarming to see a business take such an active role in ensuring that no one goes hungry, proving that corporate responsibility can make a real difference.

Investing in Literacy

Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently announced that it has awarded nearly $85,000 in youth literacy grants to Michigan nonprofits, libraries, and schools. This generous funding will provide essential resources for K-12 students, with grant recipients in Oakland County including We Love Lit! in Pontiac and Beyond Basics in Southfield, who received awards of $2,000 and $4,000 respectively. Supporting literacy is crucial for the healthy development of our youth, and it’s encouraging to see such dedication to education.

Looking Ahead

The future looks bright for both the individuals and organizations dedicated to uplifting our communities. With fundraisers like the Corporate Golf Challenge, philanthropic programs by businesses, and literacy grants flowing into our schools, it is clear that the spirit of giving is alive and well in Clarkston and beyond. Together, we can not only provide immediate assistance but create a foundation for future generations to thrive.
