Community Action of Orleans & Genesee Embraces New Beginnings with Office Opening
Exciting news is buzzing around town as the Community Action of Orleans & Genesee has just cut the ribbon on its brand-new office for Emergency Services and Case Management programs. This welcoming move, taking place at 131 South Main Street in Albion, is more than just a change of scenery; it’s all about making life a little easier for local families seeking support.
Fresh Location, Greater Accessibility
For those in need looking to access services, finding the office is now a breeze! The new spot is conveniently tucked away behind the agency’s Main Street Thrifts, Gifts, and More store, with the best entry point being through the Platt Street entrance. Community Action’s swift shift from their previous address at 409 East State Street aims to pull families out of frustration—especially those without transportation—by placing necessary services right where they can easily reach them.
What’s New at the Office?
It’s not just a new address—this office will also house the local food pantry, previously located at the East State address. After all, nutritious food is a key component of community well-being! And not to worry, the overnight pantry at 409 East State Street will still be up and running for those in need of after-hours food assistance.
Helping Families Through Tough Times
The mission of Community Action shines bright as they strive to help families navigate financial hurdles like food and utility costs. There’s also a great initiative underway for Medicaid members. Through the state’s New York Health Equity Reform (NYHER) Program, members can screen for unmet needs in essential areas like housing, nutrition, and transportation, with the potential to receive some free services that bolster health and well-being. Best of all, screenings will soon be available at the new office location!
Long-Standing Commitment to Community Support
Having built a strong foundation over nearly 60 years, the agency has been a reliable source of assistance for families of the two counties, catering to the needs of about 5,000 individuals annually. Recently, federal funds, previously frozen, have been released to provide additional support for those in need. Just in time for the holidays, too!
Spreading Cheer This Holiday Season
Speaking of the holidays, this year, Community Action has received 293 applications representing 793 individuals, with 149 children set to receive toys for Christmas thanks to generous donations from local organizations. Families are also being greeted with holiday boxes, stuffed with food and gifts for kids under 18. It’s all about sharing warmth during this special season!
A Unique Giving Opportunity
And if you’re looking to spread some holiday cheer yourself, swing by the Giving Tree at the Main Street Corner Thrift Store where you can fulfill children’s Christmas wishes. It’s a heartwarming chance to make a real difference in a child’s holiday experience!
Creating Inclusivity and Community Spirit
In a colorful touch of creativity, local artist David Burke is hard at work on a mural on the south wall of the Main Street Gifts, Thrift, and More Store, celebrating inclusivity and community focus. This vibrant project is funded through a grant from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, managed by the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council.
