Community Members Encouraged to Participate in Holiday Blood Drives and Volunteer Opportunities

Community Events and Opportunities in Troy, Bloomfield Hills, and Beyond!

Hey there, residents of Troy and neighboring areas! As the holiday season brings a festive spirit, there are plenty of ways for you to get involved and make a difference in your community. From blood drives and meal programs to donation drives and volunteer opportunities, there’s something for everyone. Let’s dive into what’s happening around town!

Give the Gift of Life: Blood Drives!

First up, if you’re looking to spread some holiday cheer, consider donating blood! The City of Troy is hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive on December 5th from 1-7 p.m. at the Troy Community Center, located at 3179 Livernois. To schedule your donation appointment, simply call 313-300-9617 or visit redcrossblood.org and enter zip code 48083. Remember to bring a photo ID or Red Cross Donor Card!

But that’s not all! Over in Bloomfield Hills, there’s a Holiday Blood Drive scheduled for the same day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bloomfield Township Senior Center, Community Room A and B. You can schedule your appointment in advance by visiting the Red Cross website and entering the sponsor code: BHRotary, or call 1-800-RED CROSS.

Support Local Nonprofits!

Giving back doesn’t stop at blood donations! Leadership Oakland Class XXXV is eagerly accepting applications through December 9th from non-profit organizations for its Day of Service opportunity. Interested nonprofits can reach out to the Leadership Oakland Class Steering Committee at info@leadershipoakland.com.

And let’s talk about the holiday spirit! HAVEN is hosting its annual Gift Give-Away, offering survivors and their families the chance to shop for hundreds of holiday gifts at no cost. You can help by donating items such as winter coats, gift cards, and blankets, with donations accepted through December 8th. Check out HAVEN’s Amazon wishlist for more details. You can also get involved by visiting Haven-Oakland.org.

Deck the Halls with Donations

Another lovely way to make an impact this holiday season is by supporting Gifts for All God’s Children, a faith-based nonprofit that allows you to sponsor a child in need. Whether you choose shopping for clothing, toys, or hygiene items, your contribution will surely make a difference. Visit their website for more details!

Family Fun and Giving Opportunities

Ready for a community outing? Head to Parc Detroit, Experience Zuzu, and 220 Merrill—where you can bring a toy to benefit COTS Detroit through December 16th. Not only will you be spreading joy, but you’ll also receive a complimentary Christmas dessert as a thank-you! How sweet is that?

Keep the Holidays Bright with Food Assistance

For those needing a helping hand, Forgotten Harvest is conducting its “Hope for the Holidays” meal distribution events throughout November and December. If you or someone you know is in need of food assistance, head over to forgottenharvest.org to find a distribution event near you.

Join the Cause, Volunteer!

If you’d like to give your time, The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is looking for volunteer bell ringers this holiday season. You can choose to ring the bell at a physical location or even do it virtually from the comfort of your home! Visit registertoring.com for more info.

Community Events to Mark Your Calendar!

Mark your calendars for the Christmas of Hope benefit for hurricane victims on December 22nd at the Flagstar Strand in Pontiac. It’s a great opportunity to support those affected while enjoying a festive evening!

With so many ways to give back this holiday season, there’s no better time to dive into your community. Whether you’re donating items, volunteering your time, or simply spreading joy, every little bit helps make our community shine brighter than ever! Happy giving, everyone!
