Forsythe, a dedicated family man, is remembered for his deep commitment to healing, discipline, and service, both in his military career and personal life. A memorial service will honor his contributions and lasting impact on the community.

A Fond Farewell to a Pioneer in Medicine

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Colonel James William Forsythe, M.D., H.M.D., U.S. Army (Ret.), has passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025, at the age of 86. Surrounded by his loving wife, Earlene, Forsythe leaves behind a remarkable legacy that has touched countless lives through his groundbreaking work in cancer care and integrative medicine.

A Look Back at a Life Well-Lived

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Forsythe’s journey began in a modest home, where he was raised by his mother, Ruth. Seeking better opportunities for her family, Ruth instilled in Forsythe the values of hard work and determination. A gifted student, he excelled in sciences and was active in academic clubs like chess and physics, setting the stage for a bright future.

Forsythe’s impressive educational journey began at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Physiology. To fund his medical education, he didn’t shy away from hard work, enlisting in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. In 1964, he attained his Doctor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and simultaneously began a remarkable 26-year military career.

Service to Country and Community

During his military career, Forsythe bravely served a tour in Vietnam and achieved the rank of Full Colonel in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. After returning from Vietnam, he continued his service as the State Surgeon for the Nevada Army National Guard. His military career not only defined his professional life but also shaped the values he instilled in his five children—discipline, service, and perseverance.

A Leader in Cancer Care

Forsythe was board-certified in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Utilization Review and Quality Assurance, with further eligibility in Clinical Pathology and Medical Gerontology. His extensive training included residencies in Pathology and Internal Medicine, as well as an Oncology-Hematology fellowship. His pursuit of knowledge did not stop there—he became a certified homeopathic physician and became known as a pioneer in integrative oncology.

For nearly 60 years, Forsythe practiced medicine in Northern Nevada. He founded several important healthcare centers, including the Cancer Screening and Treatment Center of Nevada, the Forsythe Cancer Care Center, and the Century Wellness Clinic. His innovative approach combined conventional treatments with homeopathic and alternative therapies, changing the landscape of cancer care.

A Voice for Health and Wellness

In addition to his clinical work, Forsythe authored 17 books focusing on cancer treatment, patient advocacy, and navigating the often-complicated healthcare system. He also hosted a radio show called “Health Matters.” His goal was to educate and empower the community about health and wellness, reflecting his commitment to the well-being of others.

A Family Man

Though renowned for his professional achievements, Forsythe was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished family gatherings, often organizing tennis matches and creating moments filled with love and laughter. Known for his kindness, humor, and generosity, Forsythe’s unwavering love for his family was evident to all who knew him.

A Lasting Legacy

Forsythe’s deep faith and commitment to Christian values shaped not only his life but also the lives of his children. He is remembered for his integrity, dedication to healing, and the countless lives he touched through his work and personal connections.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Earlene; his five children—Marc, Michele, Lisa, Pompeo, and Sarah; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service and Tributes

A memorial service to celebrate Colonel Forsythe’s life will take place on February 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Grace Church. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that contributions be made to the Forsythe Wellness Clinic Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring his legacy. Donations can be made online at DrForsythe.com or by contacting CenturyWC@ATT.NET.

As we remember this remarkable man, let us carry forward his commitment to healing and his belief in the power of integrative care. His spirit will undoubtedly live on through the many lives he changed.
