Findlay, Ohio Mourns the Loss of Beloved Farmer Don Eugene Treier

It is with heavy hearts that the community of Findlay, Ohio, bids farewell to a cherished member, Don Eugene Treier, who passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Don’s journey came to a gentle close at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, surrounded by the comforts of compassion and love from caregivers.

A Legacy Rooted in Family and Farming

Born on May 26, 1947, to Kenneth and Elda Wasson Treier, Don grew up with a strong sense of family values and a deep-seated passion for agriculture. After graduating from Elmwood High School, he expanded his horizons, earning a degree from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture. During his college days, he proudly held membership in the Towers Agricultural Honorary, setting the stage for a life dedicated to farming.

On June 12, 1971, Don took the step of marrying his lifelong partner, Peggy Reynolds. Their love story blossomed through the years, and together they crafted a joyful life filled with laughter, memories, and a legacy of hard work. Although he was preceded in death by his loving parents and siblings, William and Johnny, Don leaves behind a wonderful family that includes his wife Peggy, his two sons—Matthew Treier, married to Stephanie, residing in King George, Virginia, and Philip Treier, married to Natalie, hailing from Novi, Michigan. The bond between Don and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia, was particularly special; he was known as “Grandpa Don” and they shared countless joyous moments together.

Passions Beyond the Farm

Don was not just a farmer; he was a passionate steward of the land, serving as President of both Treier Family Farms Inc. and Pelton Popcorn Farms. Outside of the fields, he enjoyed spending time in nature, wielding his chainsaw to cut wood and maintain properties with his good friend, Jeff Heiman. Additionally, in his later years, he found delight in participating in autocross racing events alongside his cousin, Dick Wasson.

His community engagement did not go unnoticed. Don was a longtime member of the Farm Bureau Council, where he cherished the camaraderie that he fostered over nearly 50 years. His involvement extended to his local church, Trinity United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and made many friendships that enriched his life.

Gathering to Celebrate a Life Well-Lived

The Treier family would like to express their gratitude to Don’s brother, Dean Treier, and sister-in-law, Becky, for their unwavering support during his illness. All friends and family are invited to come together for a visitation at Barndt Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. on March 2, 2025. Following this, a heartfelt celebration of Don’s life will take place at 11 a.m. on March 3, 2025, officiated by Pastor Arnold Betz.

Following the service, Don will be laid to rest at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Wayne, Ohio. A bereavement luncheon will be held afterward at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale, Ohio, providing an opportunity for community members to share memories and stories about this generous soul.
