Troy Announces Exciting Events and Volunteer Opportunities for Holiday Season

Troy Gears Up for a Festive Holiday Season with Events and Opportunities

Hey there, Troy! The holiday spirit is alive and well in our city, and there are countless opportunities to get involved, spread joy, and enjoy the festivities. From blood drives to holiday lights, there’s something for everyone this season!

Help Save Lives with Blood Donations

First up, let’s talk about something that truly matters — saving lives. The City of Troy is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host blood drives at the Troy Community Center. Mark your calendars for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 23 and Dec. 26, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 2. Every drop counts, and you can schedule your appointment by calling 313-300-9617 or visiting www.redcrossblood.org. Remember, you need to be at least 17 years old, weigh over 110 pounds, and be in good health. Also, don’t forget to bring a photo ID or your Red Cross donor card!

Spread Some Holiday Cheer

If you’re looking to spread some holiday cheer, consider donating gift cards to the Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) of North Oakland County. They’re hosting a gift card drive until Dec. 23. Suggested denominations are between $25 and $50. For more info on drop-off locations, check out their site at Loveincnofnoc.org or call 248-693-4350.

Giving Back with the Salvation Army

The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit is also in need of your generosity this holiday season. You can donate online through a virtual kettle or even at local physical kettles. They accept funds via PayPal, Venmo, or by calling 877-SAL-MICH. Every penny counts!

Get Creative with Memory Bears

Have a knack for sewing? Hospice of Michigan is looking for volunteers to help create Memory Bears. These bears provide comfort to families dealing with the loss of a loved one. If you live in Oakland County and want to contribute, reach out to Cynthia Palmer at [email protected].

Enjoy Some Fun Fundraising Events

Mark your calendars for the Party Palooza Fundraiser on Jan. 17 from 6-10 p.m. at the Pontiac Transportation Museum. Enjoy cocktails, delicious food, and live entertainment for a good cause! Grab your tickets at getlocalhop.com.

Shop with a Purpose

While you’re out shopping, visit Gorman’s Home Furnishings, where they’re hosting their annual Charity Recliner Promotion. Donate a minimum of $50 to the Arc of Oakland County and receive a hefty discount on recliners. It’s a win-win!

Food Assistance and Support

As the cold months set in, Forgotten Harvest is busy with its Hope for the Holidays meal distribution events. If you’d like to help, they are actively seeking monetary donations and volunteers. For those in need of food assistance, check out www.forgottenharvest.org/find-food to find a nearby distribution.

Fun for Families

And of course, what’s a holiday season without some festive activities? Join the Holiday Stroll at Canterbury Village from Dec. 20-23 and experience the magic of the season! For more fun, visit Somerset Collection for Visits with Santa until Dec. 24.

Light Up Your Nights

Don’t miss out on the annual Magic of Lights at Pine Knob Music Theatre and the dazzling Big, Bright Light Show in downtown Rochester. From creative walks to stunning displays, there’s no shortage of seasonal cheer!

So, whether you choose to give back, volunteer, or enjoy the festive lights, there’s plenty happening in Troy this holiday season. Let’s come together to make this time of year special for ourselves and those around us!
