West Bloomfield, Michigan — Two women have been arraigned in connection with an alleged human trafficking operation that spanned multiple cities in Metro Detroit. Runping “Lisa” Huang, 61, from Southfield, and Chunxiu “Eva” Xu, 46, from Farmington Hills, face serious charges following a six-month investigation by local authorities.

The investigation was spearheaded by the West Bloomfield Police Department, with support from the SONIC Task Force and local police agencies in Novi, Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, and other organizations dedicated to combating human trafficking. The operation is reported to have involved transporting women from out-of-state to Michigan and coercing them into providing commercial sex services at various massage parlors.

Both Huang and Xu were arraigned in court on May 31. Huang faces multiple charges, including those related to running a human trafficking enterprise for forced labor, as well as commercial sexual activity. She is also charged with accepting earnings from prostitution and transporting individuals for prostitution. Xu is charged with engaging in a human trafficking enterprise for forced labor as well as transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution. Huang is held on a bond of $50,000, while Xu’s bond is set at $150,000.

Details of the Operation

Victims of this trafficking operation have reported harrowing circumstances. They were allegedly coerced into working long hours—up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week—while being isolated due to language barriers and a lack of transportation options. Many of these women were not proficient in English, making it difficult for them to seek help or escape their situations.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has responded vigorously to this issue, having initiated 27 human trafficking cases since November 2024. This uptick demonstrates a dedicated effort to combat human trafficking within the region and provide justice for victims.

Support for Victims

In addition to legal actions against the suspects, victims of the operation are being provided with essential support services. Various local agencies are assisting them with access to safe housing, financial aid, and counseling services. These measures aim to help victims recover from their traumatic experiences and reintegrate into society.

Background on Human Trafficking in the Area

The issue of human trafficking is a significant concern across the United States, with various local and federal agencies working to combat these criminal activities. The recent arrests of Huang and Xu highlight the dedication of law enforcement and community organizations in Metro Detroit to tackle this pervasive issue, ensuring that victims receive the compassion and support they desperately need.

In grappling with the complexities surrounding human trafficking, officials stress the need for a compassionate approach that prioritizes victim well-being rather than punitive measures. This perspective is essential for fostering an environment where victims feel safe to seek help and can begin to rebuild their lives away from exploitation.

As the case unfolds, the focus will remain on providing justice for the victims and continuing to combat the systemic issues that allow human trafficking to persist in communities across the country.
