Novi cops &nbsp:Looking into a Massive Jewelry Heist at Local Store

In a surprise getaway on a quiet Saturday afternoon in Novi, a group of four people walked off with a hefty haul of jewelry thought to be around $10,000. The local authorities are hot on their heels, trying to solve the case.

The jewelry store, known for buying gold and giving pawn loans, found itself a victim of a smart and swift theft. It happened when just one employee was manning the place on that fateful day.

As per Novi Police Department’s statement, an older woman—around 60ish donning a hijab— and a young boy strolled into the store. Pretending to be customers, they were interested in a ring for the lady’s son.

While the staff member was busy helping these two customers; two guys ambled into the store and started looking at other rings. This is where things get dicey.

The two men were hanging by a close-by display while one of them, acting all sneaky-like, reached over the counter and opened the display case when the staff member’s attention was elsewhere.

One of the men managed to swag a box with 18 rings from an unlocked case. Then the other guy stuffed the box into a purse that looked a lot like a satchel before taking off together not too long after they got there.

So, for right now, all four “customers” are on the suspect list, according to the Novi Police Department’s lead commander.

The pair who allegedly did the stealing was described by the police like this; one guy, pretty average in height and build, had short, black hair, a wee beard, and glasses. His outfit was all black— a long-sleeved shirt paired with black pants. The other dude, who was with him, was skinnier and a bit shorter—coming in at about 5 foot 8. He sported a beanie cap, white button-down shirt, and black trousers.

According to the top dogs in the police department, this quick heist took place between 3 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. last Saturday. Cops were on the scene pretty quick, right after the store worker called in to report the theft.

In the latest data available for 2022, the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting program logged a whopping 23,603 cases of retail theft that year. Of those, the authorities managed to crack a bit more than 12% of ’em with an arrest or a prosecution.
