Las Vegas Ranks 52nd Among Top 100 Safest Driving Cities – Comprehensive Study Reveals An Intriguing Result

Las Vegas, famous for its vibrant nightlife, is now making headlines for something much different. The city has received an average ranking on the Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report, securing the 52nd position among the top 100 safest driving cities. While the city is credited for responsible phone handling while driving, it ranks relatively low in terms of hard braking and driving at safe speeds. The extensive study, now in its 16th year, analyses driving patterns across the U.S., focusing on three vital driving behavior metrics: hard braking, high-speed driving, and phone handling.

Understanding the Rankings

The drivers in Honolulu, Hawaii have been crowned as the safest in the U.S., followed by Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, and Virginia Beach. On the flip side, cities like Albuquerque, Baton Rouge, Fresno, and Stockton comprise the bottom of the list in terms of safe driving behavior.

Interestingly, Las Vegas drivers are noted for their responsible phone handling while driving, securing the city a top 5 ranking in this category. However, the city is down at 75th and 76th ranks concerning hard braking and driving at safe speeds respectively.

Regional Insights from the Report

In analyzing regional trends, it is evident that other cities on the west coast join Las Vegas in leading responsible phone handling. Cities such as San Jose, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, San Bernardino, and Portland join Vegas in the top 10 for this category.

Another interesting insight reveals that drivers in the Midwest are less prone to hard braking, with cities like Madison, Cleveland, Des Moines, Minneapolis, and Saint Louis making up half of the top 10 cities that avoid this driving behavior.

Meanwhile, the drivers in the northwest and the northeast are revealed to drive at safer speeds as compared to the rest of the nation, with cities such as Seattle, Spokane, Buffalo, Albany, Rochester, and Allentown holding their respective places in the top 10.

A New Milestone in Driving Data Analysis

This year’s Best Drivers Report is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time that anonymized connected driving data has been used to determine the city rankings. Such a use of modern technology reflects a significant shift in the way these analyses are conducted, providing a more accurate and comprehensive analysis of driving behavior across different regions.

Bottom Line

While Las Vegas may be renowned for its casinos and entertainment, this report highlights the importance of road safety in this bustling city. With the city securing an average spot on the list, it is evident that there is ample room for improvement in terms of driving safely and responsibly. On a broader level, this comprehensive study serves as a reminder for all U.S. drivers to prioritize road safety, regardless of their city’s rank, as we continue to strive for safer roads nationwide.
