A Melodic Surprise in Downtown Brighton

A young resident in Brighton has created a stunning piece of interactive art for everyone to enjoy. Sienna Dietze, a 17 year-old local teen, painted a beautifully vibrant piano and gifted it to her community for public use. You can find this charming instrument under the pavilion next to Brighton City Hall and the Imagination Station.

Sienna enthusiastically shared, “I definitely want people to be united with music and find joy, just sitting down to play and relieving some stress. That’s what music has always been for me. It’s a fun little way to spend time with people and enjoy life.”

Sienna acquired the piano a year prior from a co-worker’s parents who wanted to give it a new home. Already owning a piano, she was inspired to transform it into a piece of public art after hearing about similar projects in other towns. She said, “I already had one, but I had this idea. Why not do this for Brighton?”

With the help of her friends, Sienna decorated the piano with beautiful depictions of Michigan’s flora and fauna. The one side of the piano is adorned with images of cattails and birds, while the other features a beautiful crane and a willow tree. To bring the piano bench to life, she also painted a lily pad and a frog.

Aiding in Sienna’s endeavor was her boss, who made introductions to the city officials. The project was finally approved by the Brighton Arts and Culture Commission and thus, the piano found its home in the downtown area.

A lifelong piano player, Sienna will be heading to the University of Michigan this fall with plans to major in theater performance directing. Her love for music and her community is now immortalized in the vibrantly painted public piano, inviting all to sit, play, and find solace in the universal language of music.
