Michigan State Gymnastics Dazzles with Historic NCAA Regionals Bid

East Lansing, Michigan – Exciting news is circling around the Michigan State gymnastics community as they are all set to make a splash at the NCAA Gymnastics Regionals for the fourth year in a row! This year is extra special, as MSU has snagged the top seed at the University Park Regional and holds the No. 8 overall spot, marking the highest seed the program has ever achieved in its history. What a way to impress!

The competition is heating up at Penn State’s Rec Hall starting on April 3, 2025, where gymnasts will perform in front of cheering fans. The tournament will be divided into four sessions across the four regional sites, spread over five thrilling days. But hold onto your hats; the action kicks off a day earlier with a nail-biting “play-in” meet between Maryland and West Virginia on April 2!

What’s in Store for MSU?

Michigan State will kick off their journey in the second round on April 3 at 1 p.m. They will be sharing the spotlight with formidable contenders like third-seeded Kentucky, Ohio State, and, of course, the host team, Penn State. Later that evening, at 7 p.m., another exciting session will feature the No. 1 seed LSU, No. 4 seed Arkansas, Michigan, and the winner of the play-in meet.

Excited yet? Everyone will have their eyes peeled for the top two teams from each session, who will earn a coveted spot in the regional finals on April 5 at 5 p.m. And the stakes are high! The top two teams from the regional finals will advance, and those teams will be off to the NCAA Championships in Fort Worth, Texas on April 17 and 19, rounding out an elite eight-team field.

Last Season’s Triumphs

Last season, MSU made their mark again by reaching the regional finals for the third consecutive year, finishing impressively in fourth place, just behind NCAA Championship finalists Florida and Utah, and Missouri. The spirit is high, and this trend bodes well for the Spartans as they gear up for more championship excitement!

A Stellar Team of Gymnasts

The team isn’t just making headlines with its overall performance; individual gymnasts are shining bright too! This year, MSU’s junior athletes—Sage Kellerman, Nikki Smith, and Olivia Zsarmani—earned a total of four WCGA Regular Season All-America honors. Kellerman and Smith both received first-team accolades on vault, while Zsarmani proudly snagged a second-team title.

And here’s where it gets even better: Kellerman is making waves as she’s ranked sixth nationally on vault with a stunning 9.930 NQS and holding the same score for bars, ranking her 12th in that category too! It’s worth noting that she has scored 9.900 or better on vault seven times and on bars eight times this season. That’s some serious consistency!

On the other hand, Smith has captured the 2025 Big Ten Gymnast of the Year honor and is ranked fourth nationally on vault with a jaw-dropping 9.935 NQS and is leading the team with six vault titles this season! Meanwhile, Zsarmani achieved her career-first All-America honors with a 9.910 NQS, ranking her 15th nationally.

Michigan’s Competing Spirit

It’s not just Michigan State that’s generating excitement. The University of Michigan’s gymnastics team is also set to compete at the NCAA Regionals in Penn State, registering its 34th NCAA appearance and currently ranked No. 17. They will also compete in the second session starting at 7 p.m. on April 3 alongside LSU and Arkansas.

As these teams prepare to showcase their remarkable talent, both are on the verge of making history in a competition filled with promise and passion. With all the right preparations and talent in place, Michigan State gymnastics aims to leave their mark on this year’s NCAA Regionals!
