Novi, Michigan – The 17th Annual Ground Vehicle Systems Engineering and Technology Symposium (GVSETS) is scheduled for August 12-14, 2024, at the Suburban Collection Showplace. This event, hosted by the NDIA Michigan Chapter, is recognized as the largest symposium in the United States dedicated to military ground vehicle innovation.

GVSETS is expected to draw more than 3,000 attendees, including leaders, warfighters, defense suppliers, strategists, policymakers, engineers, and academic researchers from various sectors nationwide. Participants will gain exclusive insights through modernization updates presented by senior officials from key organizations such as U.S. Army TACOM, PEO GCS, PEO CS&CSS, NGCV CTF, DEVCOM GVSC, and ACC-Detroit Arsenal.

The symposium will tackle critical topics including autonomy, artificial intelligence (AI), digital engineering, modular open system architecture (MOSA), modeling and simulation (M&S), additive manufacturing, materials, power, human performance, and logistics. These discussions aim to enhance understanding and engagement with the latest technologies and methodologies in military ground vehicles.

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact directly with decision-makers overseeing billion-dollar military programs, allowing for real-time collaboration and knowledge exchange. Organizations are encouraged to submit technical white papers that address existing Army capability gaps, contributing to the evolving dialogue on military innovations.

The event will feature keynote presentations from prominent figures in defense technology and engineering, representing DEVCOM GVSC, TACOM, Army Futures Command, and the Congressional Defense Panel. These leaders will provide insights that are typically unavailable at other venues, shaping the future strategies and innovations within the military sector.

Live discussions at GVSETS will focus on engineering, procurement, and innovation, creating a platform for attendees to connect with technology developers and explore emerging trends in military applications. This event also reinforces Michigan’s position as a central hub for military innovation, with significant organizations such as GVSC and TACOM, along with the country’s largest defense mobility corridor, located in the region.

Valde Garcia, president of the NDIA Michigan Chapter, described GVSETS as the essential event for understanding the Army’s future directions and identifying upcoming opportunities within the military landscape.

Technological Unveilings and Investments

At the symposium, Epsilor Electric Fuel Ltd. will present its new Military High Voltage Battery System, which demonstrates advancements in smart lithium-ion technology tailored for defense applications. This new system will include the introduction of the COMBATT 6T NATO battery, boasting a power capacity of 4,400Wh, far surpassing traditional battery specifications typically used in military contexts.

Brig. Gen. Michael B. Lalor of TACOM is overseeing ongoing modernization initiatives within the Army’s Organic Industrial Base, which is set to receive an investment of approximately $75 million to $100 million for fiscal year 2025. These modernization efforts are focused on upgrading production facilities and implementing advanced manufacturing techniques, aimed at improving safety and efficiency in production processes.

The upgrades to the Organic Industrial Base are critical, supporting more than 500 initiatives that will enhance production capabilities within the Army’s arsenal and depots. These efforts will ensure that the Army’s manufacturing capabilities are equipped to meet the demands for effective and innovative military solutions in the future.

As GVSETS prepares to open its doors to thousands of industry experts and military personnel, it poses a significant opportunity for collaboration, innovation, and advancing the future of military ground vehicle systems.
