Allendale, MI – Trail Point Brewing Company is set to launch its new aquatic-themed beer, Native Waters IPA, on Saturday, June 7, 2025. This New England style IPA boasts a 7.5% Alcohol by Volume (ABV) content and is the third installment in the brewery’s aquatic ales series. The release is part of a collaborative effort with the Clean Boats, Clean Waters program through Michigan State University Extension, aiming to raise awareness about aquatic invasive species and promote the protection of local lakes.

The Native Waters IPA will feature artwork on its cans that highlights three to four native fish species, delivering educational content about invasive species as part of its branding. The project was developed as an engaging way to inform the public about the importance of water conservation in both brewing and environmental contexts. Brewery owner, Jeff Knoblock, underscored the significance of water resources in beer production and conservation efforts.

Event Details and Offerings

The launch event for Native Waters IPA will coincide with Trail Point’s annual Hazy Daze of Summer celebration, taking place from 1 to 5 p.m. on June 7 at the brewery, located at 6035 Lake Michigan Drive. The event will include educational booths provided by the Clean Boats, Clean Waters initiative and MSU Extension’s Center for Lakes and Streams, focusing on ways to combat the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Attendees can expect a family-friendly atmosphere with games, prizes, and a pizza food truck, in addition to the opportunity to purchase Native Waters IPA on tap or in cans. The pricing is set at $7 for a pint and $14.60 for a four-pack to take home. The Hazy Daze of Summer celebration will extend until 10 p.m., including live music from “Lynn and Ian the Moonshine Runners” from 7 to 10 p.m.

Background on Aquatic Conservation Efforts

The partnership with Clean Boats, Clean Waters aims to educate boaters on how to efficiently clean their equipment to minimize the transmission of invasive species through practices known as “clean, drain, dry.” Compliance with these standards is legally mandated to help prevent ecological disruptions. Invasive species pose significant economic, health, environmental, and recreational challenges, making education about their impacts increasingly crucial.

The two previous beers in the aquatic ales series were named after invasive species, including the red swamp crayfish and the starry stonewort plant. The initiative to create a new beer as a vehicle for educating the public about local water conservation sprouted from a desire to find engaging ways to inform the community.

In terms of brewing techniques, Native Waters IPA has revised water profiles, employing three mosaic hop products and using hops that have been kilned at lower temperatures for enhanced flavor.

Additional information about the event and special offerings can be found on Trail Point Brewery’s Facebook page or by contacting the brewery directly.
