Novi, Michigan – The Novi community is mourning the loss of three notable residents who passed away over the past year: Hannah Lee (Provence) Donigan, David Alexander Wheat, and Doug Patton. Each individual left a unique mark on the lives of those around them, and their contributions to the community will be remembered.
Hannah Lee (Provence) Donigan, aged 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Novi on June 21, 2025. Born on July 13, 1935, in Clinton, Indiana, Hannah was the youngest child of Joseph and Hazel Provence. She married Don Harvey Donigan on June 14, 1958, who predeceased her. Hannah is survived by her daughters, Alison A. (Gayle Richards) Donigan, Jeannine D. (David) Hales, and Devany D. (Martin) Eidemiller, as well as her son Kevin D. (Judy) Donigan. She cherished her grandchildren: Delaney P. Angelillo, Brendon D. Angelillo, Davis K. (Lily) Donigan, Matthew D. Hales, Garrett J. Donigan, and Madison D. Hales. Also surviving are her sister, Martha Anne (Provence) Park, along with numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and “bonus” sons and daughters. Hannah was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Schaff Provence and two sisters, Virginia Rose (Provence) Keith and Lois Ellen (Provence) Sleziak. David Alexander Wheat, aged 31, of Novi and formerly of Ferndale, Michigan, died unexpectedly on November 13, 2024. Known for his love of family, David was a dedicated son to Michael and Anita (nee Brown) Wheat, and the beloved brother of Michael (Scarlett), Meaghan (Clay), and Lauren Wheat. His grandparents, James and Mabel Joyce Wheat, and Catherine and Vincent Brown, preceded him in death. David attended Village Oaks schools and graduated from Novi High School in 2010. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, subsequently becoming a licensed CPA and CFA. His career included various roles in public accounting firms, and he was passionate about outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, and swimming. David also enjoyed cheering on the Detroit Lions, reading, and completed the Detroit Free Press International Half Marathon. His visitation is scheduled for November 19 at Harry J Will Funeral Home in Livonia, with a funeral mass to be held on November 20 at St. James Catholic Church in Novi.
Doug Patton, aged 69, passed away on April 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and family. Husband to Suzanne for 44 years, Doug was also father to Amanda (Jeffrey) Hulbert and Ryan (Thomas Qualls) Patton, and a proud grandfather to Miles and Cora Hulbert. Preceding him in death were his parents John and Geneva Patton. Doug grew up in Troy, Illinois, and earned his bachelor’s degree at Bradley University in 1977, followed by an MBA in 1984. He worked at Caterpillar from 1978 to 1986 before moving to Michigan, where he joined DENSO International America. He served as Executive Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer until his retirement in 2019. Throughout his career, Doug was actively involved with the Society of Automotive Engineers and was recognized as a Fellow by the Engineering Society of Detroit. He served on the board of the DENSO Foundation and contributed to educational initiatives. Doug was a dedicated fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed attending spring training games for over twenty years. Visitation for Doug will occur on April 8 at Harry J Will Funeral Home, followed by an in-state service and funeral at Hope Lutheran Church on April 9. The Novi community will remember Hannah, David, and Doug for their contributions, compassion, and the lasting impact they have left on family, friends, and neighbors.
