Novi, Michigan – In a highly anticipated matchup in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association (KLAA), Novi High School triumphed over Northville High School with a definitive score of 3-0 on Wednesday, May 28, at 5 p.m. ET. The standout performance of the game came from senior left-handed pitcher Uli Fernsler, who delivered a complete game shutout, showcasing exceptional skill on the mound.
Fernsler faced the minimum number of batters through six innings and was close to achieving a perfect game until Northville’s Justin Klepp managed to break that streak with a single. Even after allowing this hit, Fernsler maintained his dominance, striking out the last three batters he faced to conclude the game. In total, he faced 22 batters, recording an impressive 13 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
The game attracted attention not only from local fans but also from multiple Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts, including representatives from the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves. Fernsler, who is currently ranked among the top-100 prospects for the upcoming 2025 MLB draft scheduled for July 13-14, exhibited a wide range of pitching abilities, effectively utilizing his fastball, changeup, slider, and curveball throughout the match. His fastball was clocked in the low 90s, while his changeup and slider were recorded in the low 80s, with his curveball reaching the high 70s.
Novi’s head coach, Rick Green, highlighted the importance of attacking the strike zone, a strategy that Fernsler executed with pinpoint precision during the game. The victory not only confirmed the team’s competitive edge but also reaffirmed Fernsler’s reputation as a promising talent in high school baseball.
This win adds further credence to Fernsler’s notable accomplishments, including being a key contributor to Novi’s successful state championship run in 2023. Following the game, Fernsler expressed confidence in his team’s potential to contend for future championships, indicating a collective drive toward continued excellence.
