Novi Mourns the Loss of Beloved Teacher Jim Rimbold

In a heart-wrenching moment for the community of Novi, Michigan, residents are coming together to say goodbye to one of their own. Jim Rimbold, a cherished teacher and family man, passed away on January 26, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer. He was 81 years old and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Born on April 19, 1943, in the sunny town of Plant City, Florida, Jim was destined for greatness. His journey into education began at Mackenzie High School, where he graduated in 1961. He wasn’t just any student; he was determined to make a difference. Following his high school years, he pursued further education, earning an Associate’s degree in Commerce from Henry Ford Community College. His passion for learning didn’t stop there! He then obtained both a Bachelor of Business Administration and a degree in Business Education from Eastern Michigan University.

Jim’s thirst for knowledge was insatiable. He later earned a Master of Arts in Counseling, also from Eastern Michigan University, followed by another Master’s degree as a Diagnostic and Clinical Reading Specialist. With all these qualifications under his belt, Jim made a lasting impact as a teacher at Lake Orion Schools, where he dedicated countless hours to shaping young minds. Teaching remained his passion until he retired in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of inspiration for his students.

A Family Man

Family was everything to Jim. He leaves behind his loving daughters, Angela Hoikka and Kristen Rimbold, who will surely carry on his spirit. Alongside them, Jim is survived by his wonderful grandchildren, including Mitchell, Paul, Gavin, Nora, Owen, Viktor, Nolan, Luke, Heath, Justin, Cory, Kyle, and Derek Ross. To top it all off, he even cherished the joy of being a great-grandfather to two adorable little ones!

But Jim’s family’s love didn’t end there! He is also survived by his brother Arthur (with Yolanda) and sisters Norma (with Rich) and Theresa Rimbold. His sisterly bond with Lanore Chisholm and Marla Rimbold will also be remembered fondly, despite their having preceded him in passing. Jim was a man who cherished every moment he spent with family, giving his all to ensure their happiness.

Remembering Jim

As the community reflects on Jim’s life, they will gather together for a touching farewell. Funeral services are set for February 7, 2025, at Milford Presbyterian Church, located at 238 N. Main St., Milford, MI. Everyone is invited to pay their respects. The visitation will begin bright and early at 10 a.m., so attendees can come together before the service starts at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join afterwards for refreshments—an opportunity to share stories about Jim and remember all the joy he brought into their lives.

Jim Rimbold’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his contributions to education and love for his family will undoubtedly continue to resonate. His unwavering spirit, exceptional dedication to teaching, and the love he shared with his family and community will forever be etched in the memories of everyone who was lucky enough to know him. As the community bids farewell, they will carry Jim’s teachings forward, inspiring others just as he inspired them.
