His love story began on May 16, 1974, when he exchanged vows with Margaret Consiglio at St. Phillip Neri Church in Detroit. Just recently, they celebrated an admirable milestone of 50 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring bond.
Mel and Margaret were blessed with three wonderful children: Megan (Brian) Bachand, Marc (Terri) Liedel, and Matthew Liedel. As a proud and adoring grandfather, he found immense joy in spending time with his grandchildren, Alyssa and Collin. His legacy continues to live on through them, alongside his siblings, Robert Louis Liedel and Denise Firoozi, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Respected Veteran and Dedicated Professional
Mel was not only a family man; he was also a dedicated servant to his country. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1968, showcasing the spirit of camaraderie and dedication often celebrated in military families.

A visitation for friends and family to pay their respects is scheduled for January 30, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Coats Funeral Home in Clarkston, Michigan. The funeral service will be held on January 31, 2025, at Christ the Redeemer Church in Lake Orion. An in-state viewing at the church will begin at 10:30 A.M., followed by mass at 11:00 A.M. A luncheon will be provided after the service, allowing everyone to gather for food and fellowship in Mel’s honor.
