Get ready, food lovers! The vibrant dining scene in Metro Detroit is gearing up for a remarkable transformation in 2025, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. With new spots popping up all over the place, there’s something delicious for everyone to anticipate. Let’s take a juicy look at some of the exciting restaurant renovations that are just around the corner!
On February 6, Ann Arbor will unveil the highly anticipated Echelon Kitchen & Bar. This 7,000-square-foot eatery, nestled in a century-old building, will cozy up about 150 diners eager to devour seasonal creations. Designed by the skilled Anne Faherty of Faherty Interiors, the ambiance will surely be as appetizing as the menu. Under the culinary guidance of Chef Joseph VanWagner, guests can expect a delightful focus on Michigan’s local bounty, with dishes cooked to perfection in a wood-fired oven.
Just a couple of weeks later, in mid-February, the Siren Hotel will throw open its doors to the elegant Chenin bar. Perfect for a classy night out, this intimate space will cater to wine aficionados with a menu emphasizing natural and biodynamic wine pairings. Plus, a tantalizing selection of light bites, including olives and tomato pies, will be available for a little something extra while you sip that divine glass of vino.
Heads up taco enthusiasts! On March 1, culinary expert Eddie Vargas is taking a former Central American restaurant and transforming it into a chic new taqueria. With designs inspired by the beautiful Tulum, this cozy spot will be able to accommodate around 40 guests and feature an ever-evolving menu of mouthwatering tacos that are sure to spice up your taste buds!
As spring approaches, keep your eyes peeled for Dirty Shake. This no-frills neighborhood bar by Sandy Levine and Doug Hewitt will embrace the casual dining vibe inside a historic building, complete with a wraparound patio and seating for 80. With the promise of cheap eats, burgers, and wings, it’s bound to be the go-to hangout for friends looking for tasty comfort food.
Exciting news for fans of Detroit 75! The beloved eatery is finding a permanent home in Oakland County by mid-2025. It will be set inside the former Madison Club Bar and Grill, and renovations are already in full swing. Expect to delight your taste buds with all-halal cheesesteaks, po-boys, and shawarma wraps, all crafted with care by the talented folks at Siwek Construction.
The excitement doesn’t stop there! Sunda New Asian is set to open in the spring near Comerica Park, bringing an enticing menu of sushi, noodles, and small bites that pay homage to an eclectic mix of Asian cuisines. And that’s not all: the recently shuttered Franklin Grill is getting a makeover to become the fabulous Franklin Oyster Bar & Eatery, where Executive Chef Nick Geftos will lead a mouthwatering lineup of seafood delights.
Burundi cuisine is hitting the scene in a big way with Waka, a beloved food truck making the leap to a bricks-and-mortar space in Eastern Market this spring. With a flavorful offering of Burundian street food, Hamissi Mamba and Nadia Nijimbere aim to share the heart and soul of their culture through culinary artistry.
Metro Detroit is proving to be a melting pot of culinary culture, with new establishments like Little Liberia set to introduce Michigan’s first Liberian restaurant in East English Village, alongside innovative spots like Nepantla Cafe, a vegan Mexican fare haven. The buzz around the new restaurants continues with concepts ranging from authentic Burundian street food to Italian chophouse experiences.
The dining experience in Metro Detroit is changing, and it promises to be a feast for the ages. Make sure to mark your calendars for all these fabulous openings and embrace the rich tapestry of flavors that this vibrant area has to offer. From cozy cafes to lively restaurants, excitement is brewing in the spirit of food lovers everywhere!
