Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Army Reserves for eight years, which included a two-year station in Germany. After completing his military service, he transitioned into a successful career as a financial analyst with the Ford Motor Company, retiring at the age of 58. Following his retirement, he relocated to Florida to care for his ailing mother, demonstrating his lifelong commitment to family values.
In the summer of 1997, Richard married his beloved wife, Olga, aboard a cruise ship after they met at a local bowling alley. Their marriage was characterized by a shared love for bowling and laughter, lasting nearly three decades. Richard is survived by his three children—Sharon, Dick, and Mike—as well as his step-sons Mark and Jeffrey Zerbst. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to his grandchildren, Jeter, Benny, Kelie, and Samantha.
