Sponsor Our ArticlesSOUTHFIELD, Mich. – This weekend, Southfield residents should be prepared for some detours as DTE Energy crews take on important electrical work on 12 Mile Road. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 16, as underground electrical work kicks off and the road will be closed to traffic in a specific area. But don’t worry, the closure is expected to wrap up by Sunday, November 17.
The Road Commission of Oakland County has announced that this closure is necessary to address repairs on an underground electrical conduit that experienced a fire earlier this year. It’s not every day that you hear about roads being shut because of underground issues, but safety comes first. The good news is that residents will still have access to their homes and businesses just east and west of the closure point, so no need to panic!
For all the drivers out there, here’s what you need to know to navigate around this roadwork:
So, if you’re planning to be out and about this weekend, it’s wise to give yourself a little extra time or consider alternative routes to avoid any frustration.
Even after the road reopens on Sunday, the work isn’t entirely finished. Lane closures will continue to be a thing on 12 Mile Road until late December as crews keep busy rebuilding the electrical conduit. So, while this weekend might result in a slight inconvenience, the work is aimed at making sure our power stays on and our infrastructure is safe!
As always, it’s great to stay informed about any changes happening in the community. If you’re interested, keep an eye on local announcements and updates from the Road Commission of Oakland County to ensure you’re up-to-date with any future developments.
So, Southfield, let’s all stay safe and patient as we navigate this temporary road closure. It’s a little bump in the road, but just like with everything, it’s all for your safety and convenience in the long run. Happy driving!
