Southfield Launches 5th Annual Holiday Sleigh of Giving to Spread Joy and Cheer

Southfield Kicks Off Holiday Cheer with Sleigh of Giving

As the holiday season approaches, Southfield is ready to spread some serious cheer through the much-anticipated Holiday Sleigh of Giving. This heartwarming event is set to take place on December 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., right in front of the Southfield Public Library located at 26300 Evergreen Road. So, grab your family and get ready to enjoy a festive day full of joy!

Bringing Joy to Families in Need

The goal of this wonderful initiative is to ensure that families in need in the community, especially children aged 4-12, don’t miss out on the holiday magic. Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren put it perfectly in a recent email, saying that they recognize how important it is to provide gifts and additional resources during the holiday season. “We aim to create a magical atmosphere for children and families,” he added.

But it’s not just about the gifts; it’s also about creating an atmosphere of joy and wonder. To add to the festive spirit, officers from the Southfield Police Department will don the iconic roles of Santa, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, and lively elves. Expect lots of smiles and laughter as they engage with the community!

What to Expect at the Event

The Holiday Sleigh of Giving is all about generosity. During the event, local families can look forward to receiving various gifts, including toys, hats, and scarves—all to help make this holiday season warm and festive. However, gifts will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early is highly recommended to ensure everyone gets a chance to partake in this joyous occasion.

“We want to make the holidays bright for as many families as possible!” Chief Barren enthused, echoing the department’s commitment to community service. This year’s event marks the 5th Annual Holiday Sleigh of Giving, and it’s evident that this beloved tradition is becoming a cornerstone of holiday cheer in Southfield.

A Community Collaboration

The success of the Holiday Sleigh of Giving is made possible through an impressive collaboration involving numerous local organizations. The partnerships include the city of Southfield, Southfield Fire Department, Southfield Public Library, Southfield Public Schools, and many more. Local organizations like the Southfield Domestic Violence Group, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Southfield Alumni Chapter, and the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce are also onboard to ensure that families have a memorable holiday.

Furthermore, the generous support from Meijer and the Take One Community Program continues to make this event a shining example of community spirit and giving, reminding us all of the importance of kindness during the holiday season.
