On July 31, 2023, it was announced that TAMIU’s Office of Public Relations, Marketing and Information Services snagged an incredible seven national awards! Out of more than 1,000 entries from schools all over the country, this is a proud moment for the TAMIU team. Steve Harmon, who is the Director of the Office of Public Relations, Marketing, and Information Services, was thrilled to share the news. He emphasized that the accolades highlight the creativity and enthusiasm of the TAMIU PR team.
He stated, “The creativity, drive, innovation, passion and teamwork this team demonstrates daily drives our efforts to constantly find new and engaging ways to share the university’s mission and story across multiple platforms.” How cool is that?
TAMIU’s PR department has embraced unique and playful strategies to communicate with the community. One notable event was the whimsical “Release the Quacken” celebration, where the campus was filled with hundreds of rubber ducks to symbolize the growth in enrollment. Also, let’s not forget the “Dusty’s Glow-Up” campaign that unveiled the university’s new mascot. These creative events not only put a smile on faces but also enhanced community engagement.
Harmon shared that their work spans a variety of areas, from creating microsites for the web to organizing exciting public engagement events. It’s this wide-ranging approach that keeps the TAMIU story fresh and interesting for both current and prospective students. And it’s working! Their efforts have resulted in positive outcomes in recruitment, retention, and community perception.
For Harmon, this honor reflects the dedication and collaboration of the entire TAMIU PRMIS team. He expressed his pleasure in working with such creative professionals and highlighted that seeing their digital marketing work recognized on a national stage is nothing short of exhilarating.
