The chilling incident ensued as Anthony Deshawn Sneed, 15, allegedly swindled a handgun from a 15-year-old boy, son of the deceased woman, Tasneem Sherrod, 42. This information emanates from a recent announcement on Tuesday by officials at Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sneed reportedly accosted Sherrod’s son for the gun amidst a scuffle, subsequently unleashing a hail of bullets. The discharging bullets found their mark on Sherrod, leading to her death, while her son suffered non-fatal injuries.
Shortly past eight in the evening on Wednesday, Detroit police dashed to the scene at the 18100 block of Runyon Street, making the gruesome discovery of the victims outside their home. Sherrod and her wounded son were promptly ferried to a hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
The accused assistant, Sneed, purportedly left the crime scene, later surrendering to the police at the Sixth Precinct of the Detroit Police Department on Thursday.
Court officials led by Prosecutor Kym Worthy leveled charges against Sneed, now a juvenile defendant. The charges include felony murder, second-degree murder, assault with the intent to murder, armed robbery, and four counts of executing a felony with a firearm. His arraignment at the 36th District Court is slated for Wednesday, according to the Prosecutor’s Office releases.
A lawyer has yet to be appointed for Sneed according to court records available as of Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The tragic turn of events has sent ripples across the communities in Detroit, creating a sense of fear and mourning. Residents are now grappling with the dreadful incident, keenly awaiting justice for the bereaved family.
