Local Veteran in Desperate Need of Home Repair Assistance
Living at Redford Township, a heartwarming couple, Herman McClain—69 years old—and his husband George have recently become homeowners for the first time in their lives. Herman, a proud veteran, had served our country with diligence right after the Vietnam War. Now, he and George are facing an urgent issue in their new home that needs immediate attention.
A major problem with their new home is a rusted railing— a critical safety hazard. Both Herman and George are disabled and rely on canes to move around. They fear that they may lose their balance and topple due to the rusted steps, especially when going up and down. “I’m praying I don’t topple over,” Herman voiced out his worries about their situation.
However, due to their fixed income, they do not have sufficient funds to get the railing fixed. “Living on fear of the unforeseeable is difficult,” Herman admits, as they did not anticipate this grave problem after they bought the house.
This rusty railing is not the only issue they’re dealing with. Herman mentions that the home inspector had found problems in their garage, but those have been fixed. Unfortunately, the railing, along with a bad leak in their basement, is still to be addressed. These are significant issues that are difficult to fix with a limited budget.
Herman sincerely pleads to the community, “If you can, please lend us a hand. We would have done it if we could, but our disabilities hinder us. We are helpless but not hopeless, anyone’s assistance will be greatly appreciated”.
Let us remember that our help consists of many forms, may it be in equipment, funds, labor, or even just by simply spreading the word. All will be greatly appreciated by our local heroes. Can we find it in our hearts to lend a helping hand to Herman and George who served us during the challenging times?
