NOVI, Mich. — Novi’s Detroit Catholic Central senior Gideon Gash picked up a regional honor this week, earning the flex spot on the first-team offense of the midseason ALL-USA Midwest Region football team.

The Midwest list draws from 13 states, including Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Indiana, and it was released Thursday at the halfway point of the season.

Gash, a 6-foot-4 Texas Tech commit, has been a threat in every phase. Through the first part of the year he has 22 receptions for 462 yards and six touchdown catches, plus three interceptions, two of them returned for scores.

He has also piled up 363 yards on punt returns and 388 more on kickoffs. Two of his punt returns went the distance when the Shamrocks blanked Warren De La Salle on Sept. 18.

The honor comes as the Shamrocks sit atop the Division 1 playoff points race. At 7-0, Catholic Central carries 80.071 points with two weeks left before Selection Sunday on Oct. 25, and district play opens Oct. 30.
