NOVI, Mich. — Drivers in west Novi will keep using the Beck Road detour for at least another week. As of Saturday, the city’s project page lists the stretch from Grand River to 11 Mile as open to southbound traffic only.
Northbound drivers are being sent around on Novi Road, 10 Mile and Grand River. The city now expects to reopen Beck the week of Oct. 26, a week later than the Oct. 19 goal it had posted earlier in October. It cautions that weather and other surprises can still shift construction dates.
Crews have been finishing the paved gaps at individual driveways one half at a time, setting curb along the new northbound lane and pouring sidewalk on the east side of the road.
The $3.6 million job, paid for with federal money through MDOT’s local agency program, widens Beck to five lanes from just below Grand River up past the 11 Mile intersection. Open roadside ditches are giving way to curb, gutter and a new storm sewer system, and the traffic signal at the hospital entrance and the sidewalks are being upgraded to meet ADA rules.
The detour’s last leg runs along Grand River past the Vibe Credit Union Showplace, which has events on many fall weekends, including the Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular this weekend. Leave extra time if you are heading that way.
