NOVI, Mich. — Novi voters on Tuesday agreed to keep paying the city’s 1-mill capital improvement tax for another decade, according to unofficial returns released by the city clerk.
The renewal passed 16,433 to 11,041, or roughly 60 percent in favor. The city says the new term begins in July 2027 and keeps the same rate, so property owners will not see an increase from this levy.
Novi uses the capital improvement money for parks, city facilities and large apparatus. Projects the city has tied to the program include a renovation of ITC Park, development of land bought next to the park and energy efficiency upgrades at city buildings.
In the city count for the Novi Community School District board, where voters could pick three, Katheryn Maguire led with 8,217 votes, followed by Cassie Lopez-Jeng with 7,484, Danielle R. Ruskin with 6,056 and Paul D. Cook with 5,524.
Turnout in Novi reached about 64 percent, with 30,850 of 48,025 registered voters casting ballots. The results remain unofficial until the Oakland County Board of Canvassers certifies them. Residents with questions about the millage can call the city Community Relations office at 248-735-5628.
