Located at 303 Lafayette St., the center features 18 emergency beds and 12 independent apartments, along with case management and community resources. This opening comes at a crucial time as the area has seen an increase in homelessness among women. Supported by significant grants, Hope Haven aims to help women regain independence in a safe environment.
In a heartwarming development for the community, the Hope Haven Women’s Center has officially opened its doors to provide support for women experiencing homelessness. Nestled at 303 Lafayette St., this new center is designed exclusively for single, adult women looking to regain their independence and stability in a safe and welcoming environment.
Hope Haven is equipped with 18 beds that aim to accommodate women in need of emergency shelter. But it’s not just about providing a place to lay your head; the center is committed to offering a comprehensive range of services. Visitors can take advantage of case management, housing assistance, and access to various community resources that will help them on their journey to recovery. The opening of this center comes at a crucial time when there has been a noticeable spike in the number of women experiencing homelessness in the area in recent years.
The recently renovated facility, which underwent significant renovations from March to December 2024, features not only emergency shelter beds but also 12 independent apartments for those ready to take the next step. The layout includes a large common room, perfect for socializing and building community, along with laundry facilities and office space dedicated to supportive services. It’s a place where women can truly feel at home while working on their plans for a brighter future.
To utilize services at Hope Haven, placements must be arranged through the local Department of Social Services (DSS). Women experiencing homelessness are strongly encouraged to reach out to the DSS for emergency shelter assistance, making it easier for them to find the help they need in a timely manner.
Hope Haven is not just the result of a few good hearts; it’s a community effort backed by significant financial support. The project benefited from a hefty $2.49 million grant from the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, along with an additional $100,000 from the Chautauqua County Legislature, which was funded through the American Rescue Plan Act. This financial backing underscores the community’s dedication to tackling homelessness and ensuring that women have the resources they need to succeed.
A grand opening ceremony is planned for later this spring, offering a chance for community partners and supporters to come together and celebrate the vital role Hope Haven will play in the lives of countless women.
Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. (COI), which has been active in community support for an impressive 60 years, recognizes that homelessness is a complex issue requiring a multifaceted approach. Hope Haven expands the existing services provided by COI, which already includes assistance for homeless households and operation of a shelter for runaway and homeless youth. The organization is on a mission to alleviate poverty and improve lives, and Hope Haven is a significant step in that direction.
As the community continues to grow, the doors of Hope Haven stand ready to welcome women from all walks of life who are looking for a fresh start. With a warm environment, supportive services, and a genuine commitment to helping women on their journeys, Hope Haven is more than just a shelter—it’s a beacon of hope.
For those who need assistance, now is the time to reach out and take that first step toward a better tomorrow.
