Sponsor Our ArticlesOn October 10, 2024, troubling news emerged from Pontiac as 17 new felony charges have been leveled against Dr. Oumair Aejaz, a local physician, for his alleged involvement in horrific acts of sexual abuse involving a 6-year-old child. The added charges come amidst an ongoing investigation that has captured the attention and concern of the community and beyond.
According to prosecutors, the charges are related to a series of assaults that are said to have occurred in both 2023 and 2024 in the Novi area. What makes this case particularly disturbing is the claim that Aejaz recorded several instances of the sexual assault. The investigation into these heinous acts began when Aejaz’s wife reached out to authorities on August 7—a brave step that has since opened a floodgate of allegations.
As investigators dug deeper, they executed a search warrant that led to an alarming discovery: six computers, four cell phones, and 15 hard drives were seized from Aejaz’s possession. Reports indicate that one of the hard drives contained over 13,000 videos recorded over a span of six years—videos that could potentially reveal the extent of his actions. With victims ranging from young children to adults, the scope of this investigation seems vast.
During a press conference in August, both Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and Prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed their shock and dismay at the nature of this case, emphasizing how it ranks among the worst they have encountered in their careers. Sheriff Bouchard went so far as to admit the challenge of estimating the total number of victims involved, stating, “I can’t estimate how many victims there are because there are so many of them.”
The latest charges announced put Aejaz’s total at a staggering 27 felony counts, which include multiple charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and aggravated child sexually abusive activity. Additionally, he faces counts for capturing images of unclothed individuals and using a computer to commit crimes.
If found guilty of these charges, Aejaz could face the possibility of life imprisonment, a fitting consequence considering the gravity of the offenses he is accused of committing. As of now, he remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
In light of such disheartening news, it’s essential to remember that support and resources are available for those affected by sexual abuse. The Michigan Sexual Assault Hotline is a free and anonymous service that operates 24/7, offering help to anyone in need. If you or someone you know is struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out to them at 855-864-2374.
The unfolding narrative around Dr. Oumair Aejaz’s case is not only a stark reminder of the realities of sexual abuse but also a call to action for all of us to remain vigilant and supportive of survivors. As this case continues to develop, the community looks on with heavy hearts and a shared desire for justice.
